National Museum in Sabac is located in Masaryk street, in the building of the former Gymnasium, which was built in 1857 in classical style. It consists of ground floor, first floot and loft. The ground floor and first floor are used as exhibition spaces, while in the loft are placed offices and depot. The total area of the museum is 1034 m2, of which the exhibition space takes up 800m2, depots 120m2 and offices 114m2.
The main entrance to the building is from Masaryk street.
The project subject on the ground floor is entrance hall, exhibition hall and four rooms that were once part of the permanent exhibition.
Vertical communication is a staircase to the first floor, which has one stair flight to the landing and two separate symmetrical flights to the first floor.
On the first floor is placed a permanent exhibition of the National Museum, two offices and a staircase to the loft. The subject of this project on the first floor are all exhibition rooms but not the office.
The project, in addition to the primary functions of museums (presentation of exhibits in the permanent and temporary settings), provides depot, media library and coffee shop. The permanent exhibition is on the first floor, while the ground floor exhibition spaces are used for temporary exhibitions and facilities.
The main objective of the new interior design of permanent exhibition is to present rich collection of the National Museum to a visitor in a modern way, within a concise, effectively illuminated exhibit space. At the same time, using the latest multimedia resources, the exhibition becomes interactive and visitor is direct participant.
Construction works on the ground was first phase of the project. In the coffee shop were carried out construction works, and furnishing.
In the mediatheque there are the small differences between projected and executed state, and there were no deviations from the original project. The “sceneries” are made of plaster and sliding curtains of colored MDF.
On the first floor new permanent exhibition is officially opened in November 2015. Modern display cases are made of simple white MDF with effective LED lighting. Interactivity of the exhibition is accented using the “touch screen” devices and holograms. The aim was to show the visitor a small number of artifacts whose value would be accentuated with overall impression that is achieved through design – color, light, music …
