The interior of the family apartment in Hilandarska Street in Šabac was designed for a family of three consisting of parents and a girl who attends elementary school. The building in which the family apartment is located is an urban villa consisting of only three apartments, with separate entrances. Each apartment is spread over three levels, has the same structure and approximate square footage.
The ground floor of the apartment in question contains a living room, dining room and kitchen in a modern “open space” concept. The living area also includes a guest toilet located directly next to the apartment’s front door. The living area, according to the wishes of the investor, was designed in warm beige tones and details in black, which are carried through the space in places. Wall panels and draperies make the atmosphere warm and cozy, for family gatherings. A special challenge in the design of this space was the internal staircase, which is positioned in the living room and which, with its glass railing, dominates this space. The investor’s need was to hide or close the staircase so that it is not visible from the living room, but also to make the best use of the space under the stairs for storage. This situation was solved by creating a library and a partition wall in front of the staircase. The sliding doors for the entrance to the storage area are integrated into the wall panels behind the TV area and give the impression of a monolithic wall. Part of the wall is covered with veneered mediapan, while one segment is treated with mediapan with grooves, which brings dynamism to the space.
The dining table is located between the kitchen and the living room and ideally connects these two spaces, not only functionally, but with its color and design. Above the dining table is an attractive pendant in black.
The kitchen is designed in a warm beige color with a black compact plate and black details in the form of a granite sink and faucet.
On the first level are the bedrooms – for the girl, as well as the guest room. In addition to them, a study room is also planned for parents who often work from home. A room for a girl is a space for sleeping, studying and storage. The bed is custom-made with a storage drawer, while a lounge chair is attached to it. The bed and chaise longue form a unique unit and are connected by an upholstered headboard. On the wall behind the bed is wallpaper with motifs of forest animals, in neutral colors. The desk is located under the window, and is connected to the wardrobe, functionally but also in terms of style, because these elements are permeated by a border made of MDF with grooves.
The guest room is designed to be elegant, in neutral colors, with green accents. The bed for one person is positioned in the corner, under the window. Opposite it is a cantilever dressing table with an attractive arched mirror. A wardrobe is attached to the dressing table. The space is additionally tucked away with wallpaper with floral patterns in shades of green.
The study room is intended for two people, since the owners of the apartment are entrepreneurs who often work from home. Their desks are oriented towards the window with a view of the yard. In this way, less space is occupied and the possibility of forming a corner for meeting with clients is left.
The second level is dedicated to the parents’ (master) bedroom with its own bathroom and walk-in wardrobe. Beige shades are carried over to this room as well, while the accent color is dark blue, with golden details in the form of moldings on the furniture. Wall panels are provided behind the bed with an upholstered headboard, which will further highlight this rest area. On the opposite wall is a television on elegant polyurethane wall panels. The room is full of natural light since it is oriented on both sides. In the corner, there is a cantilever dressing table that is extremely functional, although it takes up very little space. It too is in the characteristic shades of blue and gold, while a large gold-framed mirror stands out behind it.
The wardrobe area is accessed from the master bathroom. As the space is small in width, the cabinets are placed only on one side, while a large mirror is provided on the opposite wall, which gives an additional illusion of width to this space. The cabinets are without fronts and with hidden lighting. The bathroom was quite challenging to design, since the investors did not like the ceramics that had already been installed when they bought the apartment, and replacing the ceramics was not possible since it significantly exceeded the allotted budget. For this reason, we designed partition walls that hid the shower and toilet, which are coated with monochrome ceramic in a beige shade. The star of this bathroom is certainly the free-standing bathtub, and its position is highlighted by the formation of a plasterboard wall over the existing ceramics, after which the wall is covered with waterproof wallpaper. Next to the bathtub, there is a space with sinks behind which there is a large mirror. The largest surface with ceramics is hidden by the mirror and wallpaper, so that it is visible only on the side wall and the floor. In this way, a completely different visual identity was given to this space without the large costs that would be required to dismantle and replace the ceramics.
